“Follow your Bliss” with Joseph Campbell.

I have been teaching Joseph Campbell’s 12 steps of the Heroes Journey in my Storytelling lectures for many years but have never come across this series before, The Power of Myth, which I have just started this weekend by watching Episode 1 (there are 6 in total). What a find! I realised in the opening sequence, where Apple’s inspiration for it’s advertising “Think Different” came from as well as all the other wonderful stories which have been developed in films and books using Campbell’s techniques and thinking.

Within are many rich historical metaphors around storytelling and the 12 steps in more detail and also tips to understanding and following your richest, blissful, life… looking forward to exploring more. Just in case you would like to watch it too, here is the link for the 6 episodes and one of Campbell’s famous quotes relating to themes in this series…

ā€œFollow your bliss.
If you do follow your bliss,
you put yourself on a kind of track
that has been there all the while waiting for you,
and the life you ought to be living
is the one you are living.
When you can see that,
you begin to meet people
who are in the field of your bliss,
and they open the doors to you.
I say, follow your bliss and don’t be afraid,
and doors will open
where you didn’t know they were going to be.
If you follow your bliss,
doors will open for you that wouldn’t have opened for anyone else.ā€
ā€• Joseph Campbell

Are you following your bliss? The first episode will tell you a lot more about why this important. Are you leading a conscious, meaningful life?

There’s also a book which accompanies the series.
